Government









Saudi Arabia is monarchy based on Islam. The government is headed by the king, who is also the commander in chief of the military. There are 22 government ministries that are a part of the Cabinet. Each ministry specializes in a different part of the government such as foreign affairs, education, finance ect. The King also is advised by a legislative body called the Consultative Council. Which proposes new laws and amends existing ones. There are 150 members who are appointed by the King for four-year terms that can be changed.

~ Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the world without a river.

~ The tallest building in Saudi Arabia currently is the Makkah Clock Royal Tower which stands at 601 meters (1,972 feet). It's the worlds 2cd tallest building.

~ In August 2011, the Kingdom Tower was approved for construction. When it is completed in 2018, it will be the worlds tallest building and structure. It will rise to 1,000 meters (3,281 feet).

~ Saudi Arabia is birthplace of Islam and home to the holiest places; Mecca and Medina.

~ The Arabian Peninsula is the worlds largest peninsula. 

~ Riyadh's camel market is one of the largest markets in the world. ( on average they sell 100 camels a day).

~ In Saudi Arabia, it is illegal to practice and sort of sorcery or magic. If people or Saudi police catch you, you'll probably end up in pretty serious trouble.

~ 15 of the 19 accused hijackers of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 came from Saudi Arabia.

~ Saudi women cannot travel abroad without permission of their husbands. 

~ Non-muslims cannot be buried within Saudi Arabian borders.

Sports in Saudi Arabia

The most popular Saudi Arabian sport is football and horse racing and still to this day, people do these sports. Along with camel racing, but that is more a traditional sport. Other traditional sports include hunting and falconry. Camel racing's rules have been modified to be in a more modern race track. Before, It was camels racing in an open desert. Along with horse racing. Every Monday in the winter, there are races in the Riyadh Stadium.

Camel Racing- The sport of camel racing belongs to the Bedouin people. Races used to be in the desert including a thousand camels sometimes.

Horse racing- horse racing is one of the country's most popular and traditional sports. Saudi Arabia's horses have a bloodline that dates back to thousands of years.

Falconry- Falconry is the training of birds that hunt for themselves.

Saudi Arabian Food

Traditional Arabian foods are dates, wheat, rice, lamb, potatoes and yogurt. 

Staple Foods

Bread: There are numerous varieties of bread in Saudi Arabia including a flat bread called fatir, arikah, and a spiced bread called hawayij. 
Hummus: A dip made up of mashed chickpeas, tahini, garlic, and lemon.
Rice: Many different types of rice exist in Saudi Arabia. It can also be a side dish or a main dish.
Tabbouleh: A salad basically made up of parsley, bulgur, tomatoes, garlic, and lemon.

The most common types of beverages and dishes are Kabsa, Quran, Mtaziz, Motabbag, Masoob, Mandi, Arikah, Assidah, and Haneedh and lots more. Most of Saudi Arabia's dishes include healthy nutritional benefits and are also rich in calories. The women are usually responsible for cooking meals in their homes. The ingredients are depended on the resources of the local environment.

Saudi Arabia Culture

Saudi Arabia's culture is rich that has been shaped from it's Islamic heritage, its historical role as an ancient trade center, and Bedouin traditions. Saudi Arabia is very religious, traditional, conservative and family orientated. But, it's culture has also been affected of changes as the country was formed by nomadic society to a rich producer. Saudi Arabia's society has experienced development in the past few decades. Saudi people have taken their traditions and values such as hospitality, customs, food and the way they dress and adapted them all to the modern world.
